Default 2002 Northstar...2 quarts oil per 700 miles!!

Yes you read it right. Just like clockwork I set trip meter B and at 700 miles the car needs 2 quarts of oil. Has been doing this for 3 years.

I bought the car with 100 thousand on it and now has 140 thousand. Has been burning oil like this since day one. I've tried thicker oils, Lucas oil, wide open throttle frequently, no luck. Now it does run great. Took several road trips in it. Daily driver. Doesn't leak the oil or smoke. I take that back....it does smoke a little but only if you floorboard it on the road. Would be a great engine if it didn't drink so much oil. Kinda turned me off to Cadillacs and sometimes I wish I could fit a Ford 4.6 out of a Lincoln in there. I guess I will drive it and feed it oil until she blows. Who knows it may run another 100 thousand miles. But it never fails to amaze me how much oil it can drink. Never again

Are you positive it's not leaking. Everyone I've been under today ( 5 Northstars) had soaking wet oil pans.
Mid case and front seals in most cases. One had a hemorrhaging rear cam cover gasket plus lower end leaks.
It's something I just accept as normal now on these thing to leak.
Yours is on the excessive side.

Slide some newspaper under it and let it sit still for 2 days. Guaranteed the paper will show dark blobs by day two.

Default Leaking Northstar

My 2001 ETC leaks oil a bit on the right (passenger) side of engine. Is this possibly an oil pan issue? Any recommendations? Leaks worse when running.

Thanks.

Been under mine and replaced leaking oil level switch. Then new oil drain plug w/sealer. Thought I had it stopped but not. Did slow it down. Don't see any oil above lower pan level but still leaks. Any ideas from your experience?
Thanks in advance for any help.

My 2000 Eldorado with the Northstar had 85,000 when I got it and used A quart in 700 miles. I switched to Mobil-1 5W30 (I run Mobil-1 in everything I drive) and did the wide-open-throttle trick every morning on my way to work for A half mile stretch and now I go about 1,600 on A quart. I now have 143,000 on the clock and it runs great. And yes the oil pan isn't dry either. Not bad but not dry. Doesn't leave drops.
