We are running out of gas

Ontario Canada is running out of gas, a combination refinery fire at Esso and rail strike. I paid $1.08 per litre tonight and every other station is dry.

Sorry to hear of your troubles, the solution? Ship your car down to sunny Florida, plenty of gas and plenty of sunshine.

Don't worry about the gas, pretty soon the salmon war is going to start.

Supply lines not likely to be back to normal until next week. Even when you find a station with gas they often have no premium. Not too sure how the Northstar reacts to Regular, but I don't plan to find out. Denatured Alcohol, Salmon Wars? tell more...

I saw recently where their sales were off, I didn't have time to read the article though, my guess is the price of the car is not offsetting the price of gas? Or competition? Or now that the price of gas is under 3 bucks people are going back to HP?

I know the feeling, after hurricane Wilma, gas from port everglades was stalled for some time. Trying to keep the gernerator going took some calling in favors.
I wouldn't worry about running the N* on regular for a couple of tanks, you may get some knocking/pinging. just take it a little easy. What is the octane for regular gas up there?
Salmon war? Look it up because it's gonna be a bad one.

After what happened to the market today and the forcast for tomorrow, few will be talking about gas prices or shortage.
Would be nice if the markets could be closed tomorrow and let everyone just sit back and mull over what they are really doing and the real cause.

Regular is rated at 87 Octane. Yes I see what you mean about the Salmon Wars. Market is a bugger, I made $4K since last Wednesday and now this, I was hoping to break my next milestone by end of quarter. Today $X91,000 tomorrow...???? I'll post the loss, if any, hahah.

So I pull into a Shell station just before midnight and they are completely dry with 87 and 89 Octane but they have 91, just what I need anyway. Surprise, the sign says enjoy Shell V-Performance Gold at the price of Regular Fuel. Whippie, I saved 12 cents a litre!!! Still paid 97.8 cents. But lets get a reality check here, the oil companies gave me something!!!!!

I'm not sure. we get screwed so often..............should I be happy?

Got more free gas, sort of, same as before. No regular so Premium goes out at regular price 99.9 cents per litre. I put in a third of a tank into the Suburban, it was getting embarrassing with the line ups of tiny Echo's and Civics waiting their turn and giving me the evil eye, $60 for 1/3 of a tank.

Suburban takes 170 litres = $170.00 at least at these prices.
Deville takes 70 litres = $80.00 at least at these prices.
Wife drives GMC so she can usually go about two weeks between fill ups. Once got over 1,100 km from a tank full on a cross country trip. Deville used about $50 a week.

BTW, i am never embarrased to fill up among the jelly beaners.
they can only wish they could carry what i carry in my 4x4,
they can only wish they could go where my 4x4 can go,
they can only wish they could jump the center highway divider when traffic is halted,
they can only wish they could hop on top of the ice and snow and keep on trucking,
they can only wish they could get out of a boxed-in parking spot (never, never, box-in a 4x4),
they can only wish they were driving the 4x4 when they crash..
nope, no embarrasment at all ...
my 4x4 is KING ! ! !

I was driving home from the office today looking for some gas. Past 6 stations all dry then a little hole in the wall, wasn't sure it was open but I drove up. It was called St. Clair Filling Station. I went inside and asked the gentlemen who delivers his gas. Shell he said. Do you have lots? Probably run out tomorrow he said. I took Stealth's advice, I went out and squeezed every drop I could into the Deville. It was $1.148 per litre. No free gas today, but I got a full load.

Gas shortage causes closure of
25 Petro-Canada stations
Thursday, March 1, 2007 | 11:17 AM ET
CBC News Finding fuel in the Greater Toronto Area became even harder Thursday after Petro-Canada temporarily closed 25 gas stations the day before in an effort to keep larger sites topped up.
Twenty-five of the company's 205 stations in the Toronto area were deliberately shut down, likely for one to two days, to divert fuel to larger centres in the face of the gas shortage in Ontario. "We have taken the tough decision to close a small number of our smaller sites and so we can focus on replenishing our larger sites," said Petro-Canada spokesman Jon Hamilton. Across the province, 75 of the company's 440 stations ran out of gas on Wednesday.
The gas shortage has left some motorists and taxi drivers hunting for open stations, then facing lengthy lines when they find one. 'Stay calm,' McGuinty urges Premier Dalton McGuinty asked the public to stay calm and asked oil companies to ensure no community completely runs out of gas.

U.S. gas imports urged To alleviate shortage
John Greenwood, Financial Post Saturday, March 03, 2007
With no sign of relief in the fuel crisis that is causing havoc on highways across much of Ontario, an association of gas station owners has called on Ottawa to temporarily relax laws that prevent them from importing gasoline and diesel from the United States.Such a move would help alleviate a problem that started two weeks ago after a fire at an Imperial Oil Ltd. refinery in Nanticoke, Ont. caused the facility to shut down, cutting off scores of retailers in the province."If you have a shortage in one area, you should be able to move supplies from other areas where there are no shortage," said Bob MacMinn, chairman of the Canadian Independent Petroleum Marketers Association. "This is very frustrating."
Several years ago the federal government tightened the rules around fuel additives such as benzene and sulphur seen to be harmful to the environment, making it illegal for gas stations to sell fuel blends widely available in the U.S. Mr. MacMinn wants the federal government to waive the rules long enough to re-supply the scores of gas stations across the province that have run out.In the United States, regulation of fuel additives is regional -- there are more than 30 states and groups of states with their own requirements, some tougher than Canada's. But under U.S. law, Washington has the option to temporarily waive rules in times of emergency, as it did after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. However, in Canada the process is a lot more difficult."We just want what they have in the U.S.," Mr. MacMinn said.
The gasoline shortage has been exacerbated by the recent strike at CN Rail and bad weather, but analysts say the root cause of the situation is a lack of infrastructure. No new refineries have been built in Central Canada in more than two decades, partly because of the huge costs involved.

Yeah, it's true that gas is a natural resource which will run out one day, but the price will increase at a steady rate, the reason it's tripled in the last decade here in the U.S is because of all the wars the U.S has been involved in, a lot of fighting in the middle east making countries there sell gas for more or not sell gas at all to the U.S, and the biggest reason is the U.S falling economy since 2001. I guess we can say that the U.S has had it's 'Gold Age' and now unfortunately it's not going to be as good for us. Especially with jobs being cut, and less domestic production, gas is only going to be more expensive and harder to make money to buy it. Bush said that by the end of 2008 the U.S economy will be "stronger than ever", I'd like to see what really happens, maybe he's just bullshiting while he's still in office because by then he's going to have only a few months left of office to get his things and let Obama in the White House.
