Trunk & Gas door won't work.

I just purchased a 97 Deville. The remote does not work but I have not changed the battery as of yet. The switch on the dash that opens the trunk and gas door does not work either. I checked the fuse located in the trunk but it looks okay.

Is there something else I can do? I don't think that the remote not working would cause this. It's probably the other way around.

Make sure the vallet switch is turned off.
It's in the glove box.
