Transmission sensor

Was just wondoring why on my Dash it always says the transmission is 99%.  Is there a sensor in the transmission that tells you the life of the fluid?  Where would that be located and how much do they usually run???  If any could help would be appreciated.

There is no sensor it is a calculation based on fluid temp. and operating conditions. Data fed into pcm and out comes fluid life %
