my abs indicator is on and my display reads TRACTION CONTROL DISABLED... how can i correct this problem?

What year is your car? If it's OBD-I (1990-95) then you can press the OFF and warmer (red) buttons simultaneously for about 5 seconds untill the LED's light up. It will then enter diagnostics mode and show you the codes. If it's OBD-II (1996-01) you can do the same thing by pressing the OFF and passenger warmer buttons simultaneouly on the climate control panel.

The codes will reveal what the problem is.

I am have a 2001 sts what OFF button are you referring to?  I understand the pass. warmer button on the climate control.

OFF is climate control off. Appears to me like you have a bad ABS sensor on one of your drive wheels. This would explain the ABS light and TRACTION DISABLED. Traction control works  through the ABS system by automatically applying brake to the spinning drive wheel that has broken traction. If one sensor is gone the ABS can't perform and since Traction Control is run off ABS the computer disables it.
