Have 1970 Eldorado motor, tranny, axle and suspension added to back of 1976 Pinto wagon making it a mid-engine hot rod. The frame, including torsion bars and bracket, sticks out behind the rear bumper. Can I shorten the torsion bars to clean up the looks? If so what would be the effect? Would some other adjustments compensate for the change? If cutting the bars would ruin them could I have some made to length?.....Thanks.....Kevin

I can't tell ya much but I can tell ya this call a business who specializes in suspension and see what you find and then post if its possible to shorten the torsion bars by our ownself or have to take it somewhere.

BIG5,
I spoke to a couple of local suspension shops who said it was best left alone. I don't consider them suspension gurus on this topic though, they're frame repair/straightening guys. I'm sure they know what they're doing but I think I need an auto engineer or someone building hot rods from the chassis up. In the spring when the car shows start up I'll start asking questions. This site is pretty comprehensive and I thought I might get lucky and get someone with knowledge or experience. Thanks for suggestion.....Kevin

Torsion bars should not be shortened. Your get shorter ones made, but can't give you manufacturer. search net.
