C1760 Left Front Position Sensor input fault. Being car was just hooked make sure rod is still attached. Rod can normally be put back together if pulled apart.

I have a 1761 which is a right front. I checked the plug, it was clean and attached. What would the electrical test be to determine if the sensor is functioning properly or if it might be shorted. Thanks in advance for any help
