Since becoming a new owner of an 06 DTS i was wondering about the oil change frequency. My dealer says change every 3000 mi but the Oil Monitoring system tells me different. Who do I believe?

In 2004 GM went to simplified maintence using oil life system. For the most part you change oil when vehicle tells you to, you will also need to rotate tires at same time. Most people will go 4-8,000 miles.MOBIL1 cars will go alot futher. You still need to rotate tires at approx 6k. For seldom used cars oil change is required once a year. It's all in owners manual.

I agree with do the oil change when the car tells you to. It actually takes in to account the type of driving you are doing etc. I believe the dealer is just trying to get a little extra sevice on this one. Also compare the oil change price with Jiffy Lube vs. the Dealer etc. As slowroll says the tire rotation is very important.

That is old school stuff and a waste of precious oil resources for no good reasons.
Follow the oil monitor, follow the manual.
BTW, there is a great write up on the GM oil monitor in our FAQ section.
take a look at it. That will answer most of your questions.
Print it and show it to the dealer that seems to be ignorant on the technology.
