I bought my '98 Seville STS with a little over 200,000 on it.  I am the third owner and it's getin ready to hit 312,000, still runs GREAT!  I love the N* power and the lazy boy comfort.
Stealth, that's exactly what Cadillacs are.  You get a muscle car in an Armani suit.  Best of both worlds!

i have a 1992 Deville 4.9l that just went over 250K. i took it to the garage that has been taking care of it for sometime. i decided at 250K i better make repairs or sell. i got estimates on repair and need to decide what to do.

i paid 3k 3 years ago. it was totalled by a teen last april who crashed me with her new 2007 mazda. i got cheap parts at junk yard and ebay and made close to 2k off the deal and the parts (color, striping & all) were a perfect match. what a blessing in disguise.

currently there are some strange electrical issues with door locks. they lock and unlock at will. interior and exterior are very clean except a long (but not very deep) indentation on the back drivers side where some dork hit it while i was parked at mall.

okay so like i said at 250K i got estimates on oil smell i was getting and pulsating of brakes. this is what i got...

front crankshaft seal kit w/repair sleeve    $68.72
                               remove/replace        $156.60
                                                           TL$225.32

oil pan gasket                                           $29.58
                               remove/replace        $200.10
                                                            TL$229.68

oil cooler lines                                   #1   $86.85
                                                        #2   $63.27
                               remove/replace        $130.50
                                                             TL$280.62

                                                                               GRAND TL 735.62

in addition previously diagnosed (at time the engine was cleaned and dye added to diagnose oil leaks)

Front & Rear Brakes (@80%) needs rotors resurfaced    $156.00
Front Transmission Mount replaced                            $ 160.00

So my thinking is i like my car. i can't buy another i like as much for the $1K (the cost for repair). it has a lot of miles but i trust my mechanics to do right by me. and other than the oil leak i been smelling and the brakes, this car runs very well. quick start and runs nice. has a bit of noise at idle. that started after a hard drive to the canadian rockies this last summer.

keep? don't keep? what can i repair myself? have the mechanics do it all? how many more miles can i expect on this? is everything going to start breaking soon? who knows?

advice?

The most critical to me is the mount so that has to be done followed by oil cooler lines and brakes. I'd wait out the seals and see for a bit longer, throw in some No Leak. This saves you $500.

www.goldeagle.com

I can tell you No Leak definitely works on most gasket and seal type oil leaks.

I paid $1,000 for my 1996 Deville about a year ago with 197,000 miles. It's a good runner but there's just been too many repairs as of late (front struts, wiper motor, battery, tires). It now has 205,000+ but still has plenty of life left.

Dave K from NC a couple weeks ago. His '89 (4500) had about 330k on it when he retired it. His first '93 (4600) made it to 439k before it was rearended and totalled. He then bought another '93 (4600) with about 80k on it, and that one is up over 220k now.

Whew!!! I was getting a little nervous. I bought my 1993 sts seville w/Northstar power just a couple days ago. It has 203,000 miles on it and after checking it out I found it to be a very nice car with only a few things I need to do. After I bought my new ride I thought I would find and join this forum. Then I got scared after reading some of the other post issues. makes me feel much better now after seeing this one.

If your car was well maintaned, not to worry.

But do change out all fluids, specially coolant (read our FAQ) and add a bottle of Lucas Trans Fluid and keep on trucking.
