I have a 99 sts that when you start it it chugs or misses until you bring the idle up, I have replaced the idle air control valve with no change, this car has 80 k miles with excellent care, the car runs fine after the intial start up ..all help and ideas would be extra helpful...thanks Mike

I would check the fuel pressure regulator.
Very common for the symptom you are describing.
Pull the vac hose of the regulator and start the engine.
If fuel is in the line or it spews out when you start it then it's no good.
Sometimes i need to put a hand vac pump with a clear hose on the regulator to see if fuel is getting by the diaphragm.

Does it do it every time you restart the car?
Does it act up more when its hot? cold?
You say the regulator is fine and fuel pressure is good.
Did you check residual pressure after 10 minutes?
You really give us very little info to work with.

I replaced the regulator, it does it warm or cold, worse when its cold like its loading up , I can throttle up at start up and it will clear it self then run fine, I have not checked residual pressure, are you talking fuel pump bleed back? this car has 80k on it..thanks Mike

oh I have tried double keying the ignition before starting so it gets a chance to build fuel pressure ..no difference ..thanks again

You might be getting coolant in a cylinder or two.
I would pull the plugs and look them over closely.
See if you can narrow it down to one or more cylinders.

the car has not used any coolant, that was my first idea.. so i have watched to make sure the level is staying the same

The REQUEST from us?
Here are some guidelines that might make things smoother for both you and us.
None of this is mandatory. It is a request, so that we can help each other.
#1.
State the problem in its completness and correctness, the car model and year, etc.
#2.
Tell us when the problem occurs: driving, starting, parking, cold weather, hot weather,
when your aunt drives it, when it rains, when the planets are in line, etc .. you get the point?
#3.
PLEASE TELL US what you have done so far in trying to resolve the problem. IF nothing, say that.
I cannot think of anything more frustrating than we start making suggestions and we get a "done that."
Me for one, usually take a deep breath and dont come back to that thread when that happens.
Other TECHs may be more forgiving.

I'll figure this one out myself I don't want to waste anyones time......sorry

look at it this way. FLCaddytech is a real MASTER TECH, GM/Cadillac certified and
the man comes here and gives FREE advice and all he asks is what that post states.
why? how else can the man figure out the problem?
try going to a doctor and state "i dont feel good" and expect a solution.
chill a bit and get down to the reality of the task at hand:
your car's problem and the search for a solution.
get him the info he needs and lets get your car fixed!
ok?

I don't believe the post you responded to was meant in any other way but to be helpful for you to get a faster resolution to the problem. By advising what you have tried already to fix the problem the tech guys here can tell you the next step rather then requesting you to try something you have ALREADY done. Whatever the case is, your questions are welcome here, along with your comments whatever they may be. So, don't be sorry, ask away, this really is probably the most friendly site I've been around.

ditto on Gary.
in this site, instead of "FLAMING" the newcomer, when we get frustrated, we just go fishing.
read these quotes from another site i hang out at - not from CadillacForum.
in their opinon, these guys are being "friendly". i cant quote the stuff when they really lose it.
now that i think about it, it is kind of fun watching the daily conflicts.
quote:
"Search. We have a sticky dedicated to just this."
"im looking at the dick"
"WTF are you talking about? "headliner" returns over 200 results (10 pages)."
"why would you search for "fabric"? This isn't a sewing BBS.
"
"Try reading post #3 in THIS THREAD...
The WHOLE post.
Looks like you've read the 1st sentence & the last sentence so far."
"Didn't you READ what you quoted???
"
"No they wont, and liek your name this thread is useless"
"I want people with experience. If you don't have any with it than please try not to answer."
"WTF is up with all these god damn "what can I fit without rubbing" threads again lately?????!!!!!!
SEARCH!!!! I never do this but I'm sick of seeing people ask the same ****ing question all the time that has already been answered a million times. No your question is not different than the most common one in some special way, it's already been asked and answered now STFU and look."
now, here is the MODERATOR jumping on the last guy:
"Hey Bob, you need a hug or something."
