i just got my 2000 sts about 2 weeks ago. it has 175000 miles on it but is in good condition. im only a sr in high school so im not that informed on cars. Many times when i come to a stop sign, it dies on me. I dont even push the accelerator and its dead. so i start her back up and go on. I have checked the alternator and that isnt the problem. Does anyone know if it could be spark plugs or fuel filter? ANy help would be great, thanks

Two ideas, IAC, the Idle Air Control valve or a loose and worn serpentine belt.

I think Crankshaft sensors might be shot as well . However by the time you hit 175 K miles ,your sensors should have been replaced

Check for carbon build up at butterfly valve that accelerator cable is attached to, they tend to get carbon build up if not cleaned periodically.An easy way to know is if gas pedal hard hard to push then once car start moving feels normal.If it needs cleaned carb cleaner will work althought intake /induction cleaner is best,hope it helps
