I have a 2001 STS. My left xenon light flickers and goes out after it has been on for a while and until it gets warm I assume. I can turn the car off and once the right xenon light shuts off, I can turn the car back on and the left light comes back on. However, once it goes out the first time, each retry results in a shorter time that is stays on (roughly 10 seconds). Based on the flicker, I assume it is the ballast, but don't know for sure. The dealer wants too much for the ballast in my opinion. So my question is 2 part => 1) is there something other than the ballast that can be causing the problem, 2) are there any after market kits that fit my car, are reliable and provide quality light.

Ballast is apart of bulb, and GM is proud of it. You might try to retro fit earlier non HID lamps on your car dont know if it will work.

After digging into the headlight and removing the headlight bracket, it looks to me like there are 3 parts and in order => ballast, ignitor, bulb. The ballast is attached to the underside of the headlight bracket while the ignitor is attached to the back of the bulb. A single wire runs from the ballast to the ignitor. Without knowing which part is causing the problem I am leaning toward aftermarket HID kits. Does anyone know of a quality aftermarket kit?
