What tools are required, and how do I know what to do with rotor?
What's the electrical wire going to brake pad metal?
One of my wires is connected to the pad, the other is notted because metal is rusted away.
Would like tips, advice, pad material suggested for replacement pads???
Thanks.

The rotor should at least be checked to see if it is within min thickness specs.
Most auto shops and some parts stores can check and resurface for you.

Your car has brake pad wear sensors. Thats the wire going to the pad.
When the pad wears to a certain point the sensor contacts the rotor, closes the circuit and turns on a light on the dash.
Problem is when this happens the sensor needs replacing.
You can remove the sensors and just tape the end of the wire harness off, And the car will be like one without the sensors.
Or you can resuse ones that are still good and replace ones that are worn.

Hope this helps.

Any special tools needed to get the caliper off?
I had a Riviera that needed this box looking tool.

No, i think the 98's are just 15mm bolts.
The caliper bracket bolts have lock tight on them and are super tight.
Make sure you eat your wheaties first.

FLCaddytech,
EVerything you said was right. 15mm. Very easy. I didn't change pads, still had about 1/2 life.

I couldn't get the drivers front sensor out from the pad if my life depended on it. The two small metal clips I bent all to heck trying to pull or pinch them to get that little sensor out. How would I remove it??? Does the caliper have to come off, and possibly the pad for some reason???
I could use your help. That switch is history next tire rotate!

ALso, the suspension and brake scrolling message on the info center. How can I reset that? I disconnected the battery but it didn't reset or remove the message.
I replaced a front strut acouple of weeks age, and have a brake pad sensor message.
What to do???
