Hey guys awhile back i had posted about my heater not working. well now its only working every now and then. Heres what happens when the heater is on it will blow hot air while driving then sometimes when at idle it will go from hot to cold unless i give my car a lil gas it will blow warm and then go to cold again and sometimes whent giving it gas you can hear the coolant gurgling for a short minute and then the gurgling goes away. Also while having this problem my coolant temp light will come on for a brief moment and go off. I have taken a guess that it may be a weak waterpump but not for sure. any feedback is greatly apreciated.

No big deal here 92_Daddylac, your coolant level is low, that's all. Top up the radiator with a fresh coolant mix and you will be warm again. Keep an eye on the coolant level though as you may have a leak somewhere. It is not that uncommon to get low on coolant over extended time. I suggest that you get a routine going where maybe once a month when you gas up you go over all fluid levels. This way you will be on top of any potential problems.

PS. I saw your photo of the crushed front grille, any chance you punctured your radiator when you punched that snow bank?

JUST  F^@$ING wonderful i put coolant in and it was full. i usually drive in town doing alot of short trips. well i was going to a funeral  in another town which is a 15min drive on the highway. and it has been almost 8months since my cady has driven more that 3mi at a time. anyways while i was driving igot a COOLANT TEMP light and the car was still running ok when i decided to kick the heater on thats when somthing happend. WHITE SMOKE COME PURING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD on the driver side only and i stoped ASAP and looked uder the hood and found all hoses were ok the over flow tank was full but coolant was every where, mostly near the front by the air filter box and twards the bottom of the engine in that area would any body have an idea of what may have happened. i love this car dearly. thanx for the help.

Well I have a Northstar and you have a 4.9? The water pump is on the drivers side of the motor on a Northstar not sure about your's. That sucks, usually putting on the heater helps and topping up the coolant too. Thermostat is over there near the water pump too. I don't think you have a serious problem but it is aggrevating when these things happen and strand you. Was the heater working better with full coolant? I ask because maybe the thermostat may not be opening. That's a $10 part.

well i did have a leak so yea it help with the heater but i just went out to get my car towed home i looked at it and  and i figured i should put water in the radiator and start it up and see if it starts to leak. but as i filled the rdiator it strated leaking on the driver side. so it was a bad radiator. not sure of costs but also i got my stereo jacked out of it when i got my car back i noticed my glove box door was riped off and thats where my dvd screen was attatched to and also they took my cd player. so all in all not a very good day and to go to a funeral.

That really sucks now. The radiator is not that expensive to repair, say $400 but the other stuff that just will pi$$ you off. Sorry to hear about that.

I replace my radiator a few months ago and if I remember it was about $160.00 for the radiator and only took me and hour or so to change it.
Also changed all the hoses while I was at it.

If you do the job yourself you can always save the labour and taxes. It's pretty cold outside, unless you have a heated garage, to be doing a DIY repair. A radiator change is also messy, I'd take it to my shop.Crpsscomp's idea about changing the hoses is also a good one, they should be done when the new rad goes in.

when i got the car it had new hoses and woulndt you believe a new radiator.lol  I pulled it out my self and yes it was pretty messy, but the radiator was manufactured in 2005. cuz i looked at it and thought it was in pefect condition and so i looked and found it was cracked on the side  plastic piece where the oil lines run into that is attatched to the alluminum radiator. so im going to my local radiator shop in town and see if he can fix it. my friend told me to try and jb weld it since its not a big crack. but im unsure of this idea and dont think it would do good under high temps.

whats real funny though is that the cdplayer didnt play cds so i had to use the dvd player and while they were in a rush to take my stuff they left the power wires in my car and so all that work they did they cant even use the sh!t so its sorta funny and yea it  P's me off but when the us lets illegal mexican here this is what we put up with. i know that it was a hispanic person because schyler Nebraska is 80% hispanic and 20% old white ppl. so thats my oppinion. Im not racist i own a color tv.

Four women were driving across the country. Each one was from a
Different place: Idaho, Nebraska, Texas, and Mexico.

Shortly after the trip began, the woman from Idaho started pulling Potatoes
from her bag and throwing them out of the window.

"What the heck are you doing?" demanded the Nebraskan.

"We have so many of these darn things in Idaho, I am just sick of looking at
them!"

A moment later, the gal from Nebraska began pulling ears of corn from her
bag
and tossing them from the window.

"What are you doing that for?" asked the gal from Texas.

"We have so many of these things in Nebraska, I am just sick of looking at
them!"

Inspired, the gal from Texas opened the car door and pushed the Mexican out.

i also read in another post you replied to about the EGR valve will that make the car idle funny as in it sounds like it wants to die and has a hard time idling.

Do you have a 4.9 l V8?
92_Daddylac
3/16/2007 2:31:55 AM
yes i do have the "4.9" the reason i ask about the EGR valve is every now and then my car idles funny and seems as if it doesnt want to stay at the right rpm when at idlethis happens when in P N or D when stoped. i have new plugs wires distributor and pickup coil. basicly the ignition system is all brand new and everything was fine until 3-4months after that stuff was replaced. my "SEL" comes on and the code igot was for the "EGR system". thats all the codes i got . This cady is a great car for having 180,000 mi. engine and tranny are still in good shape. its just that theres alot of small problems i have here and there due to normal wear and tear. thanx for helping.

From the photo your car looks great, as you say just needs some fine tuning. The newspaper here has a Section called Wheels. They did a story on longevity of cars registered here in Ontario. The average GMC truck registered was 15 years old which surprised the editors but what blew them away was that in the luxury category the number 1 car was Cadillac which also averaged 12 years. Beacuse these guys are raised on Japanese imports and BMW's they couldn't figure it out. Maybe it's because it is a solid well built car, eh?

EGR - the code is telling you to do something about it. EGR system reburns exhaust gases so the engine is set up to recieve an intake charge that has air, fuel and exhaust gas in it. If the EGR system is malfunctioning and the charge is not as the engine expects it will idle and run poorly. Could be the EGR valve needs replacing. Harder to correct would be the EGR passages being carboned up.

well i had thought it was the egr valve and was going to replace it but i figured now that its warming up i may clean the passages and see if that helps before buy a new EGR valve. As for for good looking cadys i saw a pic of your deville and that is quite a clean looking car .

ya thats the cady. i was almost tempted to sell mine to try to get a newer one like yours. they look as if they ride way nicer than my 92 plus they got more power.
Katzmans Caddy
3/16/2007 11:14:08 PM
I can't compare the ride to a 92, but today a back seat passenger commented on how nice it was to relax on the sofa and we were on travelling at 70 MPH on the highway, that must say something about the ride. As for power, someone coined the phrase "a Muscle Car in a Tuxedo" and that is a very accurate statement. I know because I drive this around in the summer:
