Fix for OnStar for 01 DeVille?

Hello,
 
Does anyone know how to bypass or upgrade the onstar system on a 2001 DeVille?  I called OnStar and Cadillac and they said there was no fix.  This seems very strange since it is a transceiver that needs to be replaced.  Are there any other systems similar to OnStar with a live operator if this cannot be bypassed?
