Fire Hazzard Heated Seats

I have a 2000 Escalade which was left unattended for a few minutes and on my return there was a stream of smoke coming from the drivers seat. I was fortunate to catch it and turn off the heater switch to the seat. End result - a burnt hole in the leather seat. Cadillac advises they are unaware of any problems and will not repair it. Has anyone else experienced this problem? There was a large recall by Jeep after they learned of potential fire hazzards with their heated seats.
