my 99 sls sputters when first started, it may take about 1 or 2 minutes than it is smooth riding. I replaced the fuel filter that didn't help at all. For the last few days white smoke gas been coming out of my exhaust. I've only had the car for a year it has 90,000 miles on it. Also periodically I have to top off my coolant, at least once a month, somebody shed some light.

I hope its not a head gasket
Pull the plugs, usually the rear bank. If one looks nastier that the others, oh-oh.
What happens on some of the aluminum block engines is the head bolt threads pull out of the block. It can be fixed but it costs a few $$.

the sls is in the shop now, the head gaskets were going bad. thanx
