Wow - one of my favorite big boy Caddies... You have a great sleeper there.

And black - best color

In '97 there was a Z-Rated option - one that took the governors off the engine so it could go well above 150, had Z-rated tires, a stiffer suspension programming, a different torque converter and 4l80T setup so the car can switch into 4th gear at wide open throttle and lock the converter up under full power, and a bit larger cooling system so you can stand on it. Sort of pre-"v" series. It would allow you to see almost any stock corvette in the rear view mirror...

Oh, tell me you have that....

Although - most of those were sold to the European market - I think very few in the US.

If not - first thing I would do is take care of the exhaust and intake - although, you probably have sensors on the cats - so you might have to do cat-back only, or check with Magnaflow and see if they have a work-around on the cats.

Also - I know they have chips for the engine - although - I am still waiting to hear from someone to see how his chip worked on his northstar - he had it dyno'd before - but hasn't gotten it dyno'd since the change out - these are de-tuned racing engines, and changing the programming should help them a lot.

Post photos... please.....

Fox,
how does one tell if  an '97 STS is one of these?
I bet they are big time sleepers and people dont even know they got them.

Unless you know it has original tires (I hope it doesn't anymore) I am not sure - one of the techs at work talks about these all the time - he was a tech for GM at the time these came out - and loved them.

eBay has one in Canada...

But - it needs headgaskets - not cheap - sort of the Northstar curse if you don't take care of the coolant...

See if you can take it over the stock 130 speed limiter - If you see 150 as you merge into traffic you can be assured you have the 'z' package

Service Part IDentifaction label - SPID for short. GM puts SPIDs on all cars and trucks since the early 80s.Its like a build sheet. Its location varies from model to model. Spare tire cover and under side of trunk lid most popular in cars. RPOs QVF 225/60ZR16 blackwall tires. NC7,NB8, or NG1emssions export or overriden. T84 or T85 head lamps.I would expect to see these on SPID label.
