I hope that if anyone does know how to program the nav to allow a person to watch a video while driving she or he will keep it to themself! The thought of what you suggested is frightening.

I directed the question meaning that the passenger can wacth the dvd playing on the rear seat. I agreed with you to the danger this can be to the driver and safety of all passenger. But, I see that people are installing dvd monitors on the dashboard. Is this any different? What about when a driver is following the actual map on the nav system?

Crash crash and crash again hopefully not in to me. I have heard there is a way to have passenger (I'm sure that's what you meant) watch while car is in motion, someone here posted something about it. I'm sure you will have the answer soon.

This definitely works. I have a loaded 04 with nav and rear dvd. I did this while the car was running with the dvd in the front player first. When doing it with the nav dvd in the prompt says cannot read DVD or something like that. To test it I drove down the street. Real distracting at night even if you are not watching it. There was another screen between step 2 and 3 I that was for diagnostics and then entered the code. Some of the menu options are funky on screen stuff but could control everything.
Hey, it works great. Just tried it, all the controls are there, cursor, etc. Nice. Thanks a ton.
I did miss my nav though, kind of addicted to always seeing where I am, even when I know where I am.

I learned on this forum how to bypass the lock on the nav screen, allowing DVD movies to be viewed on the nav screen. It works and brother is it distracting. Also, it has to be reset each time you restart the car. Here's the process: (1) RH side of nav screen, tap TILT. Remove the nav disc, insert the DVD; (2) LH side of screen, push & hold the musical note button; (3) onscreen, enter 1791 on the numeric key pad; (4) onscreen push "enter" & "return" (5) onscreen tap "menu"; (6) onscreen use arrows for enter & return; (7) onscreen tap DVD, then "Image", now your movie's playing.

1791 is the fix for this problem. It works great unless you have had your Nav system replaced. GM caught on to it, and disabled it in the newer and replaced Nav units.
