My 2002 Deville radio will kill the battery overnight. If I use the radio this happens. after a jumpstart, if I do not turn the radio on, the car will operate normally for days (until I use the radio). Does anyone have a suggestion as to whether it's the radio or maybe some associated circuitry? The local dealer agrees that the problem exists but his only suggestion is to replace the radio.

The radio is wired thru a relay called a RAP relay( retained accessory power). This is to power the radio, windows, wipers for approx 10 min. after shutting off car and times out if you open a door. I've heard if the RAP relay sticks then there is a constant 12 volt source to draw down the battery. I doubt if the radio alone could kill a good battery.

The radio can kill a battery, it happens to a lot of people. Someone probably found a good constant power source for the radio and it drains power when it's on. I turn off my radio and take the faceplate off everytime I turn off my car so I don't have this problem, if you do the same you probably wouldn't either.

Thats assuming this person has an aftermarket radio and assuming it was wired incorrectly!

Carnut, I could never find the RAP relay for the radio. I bought a radio on Ebay as a replacement and replaced the battery..twice. The first battery was bad.Replacing the radio cured the problem. I''ll never know why the radio caused such a drain as the Theft Lock radios are not repairable by normal repair shops. Thank you for the reply.
