I have a 2002 Cadillac DeVille DHS, with 16,155 miles on it. It is still in showroom condition, however at about 16,000 miles while driving, it would just stop on me (like waiting at a light or coming to a complete stop) so now 150 miles later the check engine light has started to come on now and then, it has not stayed on completly yet. Someone told me that the check engine light is preset at factory to have it come on at different mile marks so that you can go in and have a dealer check it and turn it off. Is that true? Would that be the cause of the engine cutting off? Or maybe water in gas? I do not know....HELP

The check engine light will not turn on unless there is a problem.
You need to have the car scanned for trouble codes.
That should give a big clue in helping solve your problem.

Only this could happen to me...the "Have engine serviced soon" light comes on for a little while then will go off, usually the next day. Any clues???

like he says. needs to be done.  the scan should not be expensive.

the other possible issue is that a connector is loose or oxidized somewhere.
go to our FAQ section and read about electrical ghosts, itmay give you a little insight.

BUT 1st, get the scan done.
