Sounds like you need spacers between the wheel and hub. What is the offset of the old wheels VS the new wheels , and width of the wheels.

I think they are 4.75 offset with 245/50/18 tires. The tire goes on when jacked up, when letting down the body of strut that holds coil lands on top edge of tire about 2" in. The tire is about even with wheel well just like back one. With spacer I don't want wheels sticking out of wells. Was told i'll have to crossreference with salvage yard about 2005 DTS to see what is different, strut, steering knuckle, something. People have bigger then this.how is it done. thanks pat

Well you only have a few options, you can reduce the diameter of the package using a shorter tire. I don't know the size of your stock tires, so can't say if the new ones are too tall. The other option is to push the wheel out far enough to clear the strut, but you may come out from under the fender. 4.75 is the back spacing, offset is from the center of the wheel. Here's a link to look at tire sizes
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html if you can convert to offset here is a link for that
http://marksink.com/tire_wheel_offset/offset.html if you look inside the wheels they may have the size and offsets stamped or cast in the wheel. example 18x8 45 (sometimes offset is shown with ET)

ended up buying new tires for front 245/45/18. Have to stay within same diameter of original wheels . they look good. thanks for input. pat
